Hong Kong our old friend

sunny 28 °C

Hong Kong can be eye-wateringly expensive to stay these days, esp during peak visitor periods.
So this time we stay further out, in suburban Sha Tin district, New Territories. Less dense, more space.

Hong Kongers (modern Chinese generally) love pets, esp dogs... a Chinese Chow Chow...

Outdoor lunch snack here is Chiu Zhou Fun Guo (a NE Cantonese dumpling filled with dried shrimp, peanuts, chives, mushroom, etc) & Cheong Fun (steamed rice noodle rolls)... ...

Lily has her favourite Roast Duck on Rice, al fresco Sha Tin roadside style.

Thank you for your first blog-very exciting and interesting-love the photos.
Just off to Wynyard Quarter with Bowers, which will be a different experience in the food line from what you're having there in HK.
Take care, Oh & no doubt you know the Aussi's won Bronze?!!!

Yum! But enough of the food - get thee to a camera shop (Wing Shing's in Mongkok?) and report on the latest.
What is it about chinese and ugly pets? I'm thinking those truely ugly bug-eyed goldfish.......

p.s. Say hello to the lovely Hanoi scooter girls for me.

Hi Wendy,
You will of course remember HK yourself I'm sure.
We are fortunate to have somehow scored an invitation to the HK Football Club tomoorow for the RWC Final... however I have not packed my old school tie nor blazer, so am hoping that my Murray Mexted impressions should get me through the door ;-)

Derek... Today Saturday, every man & his wife/girlfriend were out & about in HK & middle-aged camera-buffs were out in force too! SLRs of course but I've seen quite a few 4/3rds jobbies in the hands of trendy young guys. Wing Shing, OK!

Woohoo! Heart rate was pretty high over here too, despite a big Carlsberg on hand at the HKFC. Win ugly but they won!

Awesome photos thanks Owen. What was the east coast like below Hanoi?

Wendy...the trip from Hanoi to Hue was 13hrs on a 'Sleeping Bus' at night, so not much to report. However, Hue - Hoi An was 3.5hrs daytime bus - not dissimilar to NZ coastline, flatland, coves with hilly headlands between. The bays however are often full of marine-farming of some sort, lots of poles sticking out of the water, etc. Still lots of rain around in Oct, showers once a day or night, but today it poured in Hoi An!
